Photo by Laura Petrilla for our “Heritage Cookies of the Old and New World” cookie cookbook, a project I am creating with my cookie-baking husband.
Those key lime cookies in the photo, filled with lime curd? All gone! And so’s the rest of the cookies in the house, ditched along with the lovely Christmas tree. We had a fun holiday, but it’s time to start anew. I don’t set resolutions anymore, because I find that goals work better.
Some goals for this year revolve, by both necessity and desire, around writing and publishing. I’d like to finish the Disorderly Elements and the Wild Horses series. I have some books I’ll be getting back from Dreamspinner Press, which means arranging for book covers, narrations, publishing… and you’ll get them all in a newly edited format.
I’ll write whatever comes to mind. Goodness knows, I always have enough story ideas in the back of my mind, sometimes it’s hard to fall asleep.
Two big goals that might affect you, the reader, are this: I’ve decided to invest into a Patreon page. Oh, the money’s free, but Patreon means time and commitment. If any of you want your free reads months before they appears here, or if you wish to drop a tip in the jar, that’s the place to do it. Expect Audible download codes, printed books, a set of Tarot cards I’m drawing for my Disorderly Element guys… I’m PLAYING, y’all, and it feels darn good!
Another fun way to play? In my bookstore! Last fall’s trip to Las Vegas, where I have learned the newest resources for indie publishers, made it possible for me to set up a bookstore. Click on the “Olivette’s Bookstore” tab, and see. The fun part? This is where you’ll find my books at the lowest regular price. This is where I can also drop a book to a zero and give it away for free, something that other stores don’t like to do.
In a similar vein, I have 23 titles on Audible, but I can’t control their prices. If I publish audio books on Findaway Voices, though, I’ll be able to set my own prices! That’s good for both me and for you.
I’m looking forward to this year! 2019 will be a year of organizational structure, where a lot of hard work will go into making my writing accessible and easy to find.
What are your big goals this year? Drop me a line and let us all know!
